Comtek CR-D70W Dual-Band Mobile Transceiver
2 m / 70 cm • 75 W VHF / 60 W UHF • Dual Receive • 999 Memories • Detachable Control Head
The Comtek CR-D70W is a high-power dual-band FM mobile transceiver for the 2 metre and 70 centimetre amateur bands, delivering up to 75 W on VHF and 60 W on UHF.
Manufactured by TYT in partnership with Comtek Radio and configured specifically for Australian amateur radio operation, the CR-D70W combines substantial RF output with dual receive, independent left and right band operation, 999 memory channels, a detachable control head and cross-band repeater capability.
Unlike standard international versions of the radio, transmission is limited to the applicable Australian amateur bands, while the original wideband receive capability is retained. In VFO mode, repeater offsets and shift directions are configured to follow the WIA Australian Amateur Band Plan.
For operators wanting a powerful, conventional 2 m/70 cm mobile without the additional bands of the CR-9800, the CR-D70W offers a particularly capable alternative.

Configured for Australian Amateur Radio
The CR-D70W supplied by Comtek Radio has been configured specifically for Australian amateur operation.
Transmit operation is restricted to the applicable Australian amateur allocations:
| Band | Transmit Frequency |
|---|---|
| 2 metres | 144.000–148.000 MHz |
| 70 centimetres | 430.000–450.000 MHz |
The receiver retains the original wideband coverage of the TYT platform, providing additional monitoring capability outside the amateur transmit bands.
In VFO mode, repeater offsets and shift directions are configured in accordance with the WIA Australian Amateur Band Plan, making the radio better suited to Australian repeater operation straight out of the box.
High-Power Dual-Band Operation
The CR-D70W is designed for operators who primarily use 2 metres and 70 centimetres but want substantially more RF output than is available from many conventional dual-band mobiles.
Maximum output is 75 W on VHF and 60 W on UHF, with selectable lower power settings available when full output isn't required.
This makes the CR-D70W particularly well suited to mobile installations where additional RF power can be useful when operating through more distant repeaters or under difficult conditions.
Dual Receive and Independent Band Operation
The CR-D70W provides independently operated Band A and Band B sections, allowing two frequencies to be monitored simultaneously.
Each side has independent volume and squelch control, making operation more convenient when monitoring two repeaters or frequencies.
The radio can operate in either dual-band or single-band display modes and supports independent band selection.
Cross-Band Repeater Capability
The CR-D70W includes a cross-band repeater function, allowing signals received on one band to be retransmitted on the other.
The radio supports cross-band operating configurations in which either band can be used as the transmit or receive side, adding considerable flexibility for suitable amateur-radio applications.
Flexible Mobile Installation
A detachable front control head allows the main transceiver body to be mounted away from the operating position.
This is particularly useful in modern vehicles where dashboard and console space is limited. The main radio can be mounted under a seat, in the rear of the vehicle or in another suitable location, with only the compact control panel installed within reach of the operator.
The required front-panel separation cable and mounting hardware are supplied with the radio.
The CR-D70W can also be used as a fixed-station transceiver when connected to a suitable 13.8 V DC power supply and antenna system.
PC Programming
Every CR-D70W is supplied with the Comtek CR-D70W Programming Software and USB programming cable.
PC programming provides a convenient way to configure the radio's 999 memory channels, repeater frequencies, signalling options and other programmable settings. This makes it particularly easy to build and maintain a personalised collection of local and travelling repeater channels.
