TYT CR-99UV Dual-Band Handheld Transceiver
2 m / 70 cm • 5 W • IP68 • Dual Watch • 200 Channels • 2800 mAh Battery • USB-C Charging
The TYT CR-99UV is a compact, rugged 5 W dual-band handheld transceiver designed for Australian amateur radio operators who want a straightforward, durable portable radio for everyday use.
Manufactured by TYT in partnership with Comtek Radio and configured specifically for Australian amateur radio operation, the CR-99UV provides 2 metre and 70 centimetre FM operation, dual-band monitoring, 200 memory channels, IP68 environmental protection and a high-capacity 2800 mAh rechargeable battery.
Unlike standard international versions of the radio, transmission is limited to the applicable Australian amateur bands. In VFO mode, repeater offsets and shift directions are configured to follow the WIA Australian Amateur Band Plan.
Every CR-99UV is also supplied with Comtek CR-99UV Programming Software and a programming cable, making it easy to configure memory channels, repeaters and other programmable functions from a PC.

Configured for Australian Amateur Radio
The CR-99UV supplied by Comtek Radio is configured specifically for Australian amateur operation rather than simply being an unrestricted international radio with a different model number.
Transmit operation is restricted to the applicable Australian amateur allocations:
| Band | Transmit Frequency |
|---|---|
| 2 metres | 144.000–148.000 MHz |
| 70 centimetres | 430.000–450.000 MHz |
In VFO mode, repeater offsets and shift directions are configured in accordance with the WIA Australian Amateur Band Plan, simplifying operation through Australian amateur repeaters.
This configuration helps reduce the possibility of accidental transmission outside the frequencies available for Australian amateur operation while retaining the normal flexibility expected from a VFO-equipped amateur transceiver.
Rugged IP68 Construction
One of the CR-99UV's strongest features is its IP68 environmental protection rating.
This makes it particularly well suited to portable and outdoor amateur radio use where equipment may be exposed to dust, dirt or wet conditions.
Whether used around the shack, at a field day, while travelling or during other outdoor activities, the CR-99UV is designed as a practical handheld that does not need to be treated as delicately as many conventional portable radios.
Dual-Band Monitoring
The CR-99UV supports dual-band, dual-watch and dual-standby operation, allowing two frequencies or channels to be displayed and monitored.
This is useful when monitoring a local repeater while keeping an ear on another repeater, calling frequency or simplex channel.
The radio can be operated in frequency (VFO), frequency/channel or memory channel modes, providing flexibility for both direct frequency entry and normal programmed-channel operation.
200 Memory Channels
The CR-99UV provides 200 memory channels for storing commonly used repeaters, simplex frequencies and other operating channels.
Channels can be assigned names using the programming software, allowing frequently used frequencies to be identified more easily than by frequency alone.
Three Selectable Power Levels
The CR-99UV provides High, Medium and Low RF power settings, allowing transmit power to be selected according to operating conditions.
Maximum output is 5 W, while the lower settings can be used for nearby repeaters or simplex contacts where full power isn't required, helping to conserve battery capacity.
2800 mAh Battery and USB-C Charging
The CR-99UV is supplied with a 2800 mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery, providing substantial capacity for portable operation.
In addition to the supplied desktop charger, the radio package includes a USB-C charging cable, providing a convenient additional charging option.
This is particularly useful when travelling or operating away from home, where access to conventional charging arrangements may be limited.
Scanning and Tone Search
The CR-99UV includes a range of scanning functions for finding and monitoring activity.
Frequency and memory channels can be scanned, with selectable Time Operated (TO), Carrier Operated (CO) and Search (SE) scan modes.
The radio also provides CTCSS and DCS tone scanning, allowing an unknown tone or code on a received signal to be identified.
Signalling Functions
For repeater and other analogue FM applications, the CR-99UV supports:
- CTCSS encode/decode
- DCS encode/decode
- DTMF
- 2-Tone
- 5-Tone
- ANI
- PTT ID
- 1750 Hz tone burst
FM Broadcast Receiver
A built-in FM broadcast receiver provides reception across 64–108 MHz.
Up to 24 FM broadcast channels can be stored, allowing commonly used broadcast stations to be recalled without manually tuning them each time.
One-Key Frequency Copy
The CR-99UV incorporates a one-key frequency copy function designed to simplify copying the operating parameters of another compatible analogue FM transmission.
When a suitable signal is received, the function can identify and copy frequency and CTCSS/DCS information, reducing the need to enter those parameters manually.
PC Programming Included
Every CR-99UV is supplied with Comtek CR-99UV Programming Software and a programming cable.
PC programming provides a convenient way to:
- Create and edit memory channels
- Configure Australian repeater channels
- Assign channel names
- Configure CTCSS and DCS
- Configure DTMF, 2-Tone and 5-Tone functions
- Select transmit power
- Configure scan and other programmable functions
- Save and restore radio configurations
